Foundation
The GENTES foundation was established in July 2019 by Polish volunteers working previously on educational projects in Western Ukraine, water decontamination projects in the Donbas region and tuberculosis treatment projects in Ukraine.
In 2019, the foundation provided in-kind assistance to the Center for the Homeless, Released from Prison and Addicted in Uman, Ukraine, and cooperated in installing water infrastructure in the village of Kekuta Kunda in the east of Gambia. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the GENTES foundation carried out activities in Krakow, providing basic needs assistance to people in homelessness crisis and to the elderly.
Since February 2022, the foundation has been running a water supply and purification project in several places in Ukraine, including Bucha, Irpin, and Kharkiv, in cooperation with the local administration, as well as in Lyman, Izium, and Kryvyi Rih. From the beginning of the war, the foundation has been organizing humanitarian aid transports to various places in Ukraine, e.g. to Kiev, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Bakhmut. The GENTES foundation is one of the organizations associated with the Open Krakow Coalition, working together in support of Ukrainians in Kraków in cooperation with the Kraków City Hall, UNHCR Poland, and the CORE Response organization.
