The Road to Help -from Lviv to Monte Carlo to help Ukrainian children
The last time that rally drivers set off from Lviv for the start of the legendary Monte Carlo Rally was in 1930. Now, ninety-three years later, Michal Kumiega and Svetlana Kravs will take this very same route. The Polish-Ukrainian crew will cover 2200 kilometers to raise funds to help the most vulnerable victims of the war – children in Ukrainian orphanages. They will travel from Lviv to Monaco in a 1932 Peugeot 201 Coupe!
The Monte Carlo Rally is the oldest and most prestigious rally in the world. Its first edition was held in 1911. This extremely demanding event is held on winding asphalt roads located in the French High Alps. Part of the history of this legendary event are the so-called “concentration legs” – in the past, competitors would take different routes from various cities in Europe to “rally” (meet) in Monte Carlo, covering several thousand kilometers each. Warsaw and Lviv were among the cities from which the racers last set off in 1930.
Taking to the Road for Help
Inspired by the tradition of the concentration legs, Michal Kumiega has launched the #RoadToHelp campaign to raise funds for Ukrainian children, who as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine have lost their parents and their homes and, moreover, have been deprived of any sense of security. – Every day more and more Ukrainian children are becoming orphans, and more and more buildings are being adapted temporarily to house them. The war, which has been going on for almost a year, is a constant battle not only on the frontlines, but it is also the struggle to meet the basic human needs of the youngest after the utter destabilization of their lives – explains Michal Kumiega, the brain behind the idea and also the owner of the Kumiega Racing car rallying and racing team. He continues – Upon learning about our project, the authorities of the Monaco Automobile Club invited us to participate in the honorary start of the rally. On the 27th of January, our 91-year-old car will be the first to cross the start ramp of the Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, thus opening the race.
Michal will drive the car himself, co-piloted by Svetlana Kravs from the Lviv Automobile Club.
An Experienced Humanitarian Team
– This is not the first humanitarian project for Ukraine that I have been involved in, but it is the first that I am speaking about in public. I urge you to please pass on the news about our charity race, but also to support us on our way as well as in our fundraising. We would like to share our experiences and impressions from the trip with you, and more importantly, after the event, what we manage to do to help children in Ukraine. – Michal concludes – I would like to stress that we are not raising funds for the expedition itself – we will cover these costs ourselves, and all the money collected through this event will be put towards supporting children in Ukraine and meeting their most urgent needs.
This campaign, the #RoadToHelp, is being carried out in cooperation with the Gentes Foundation. The Foundation has been helping people in Ukraine for the last three years, whereas the people who make up the Foundation have been helping them since 2014. Since the beginning of the war, the Foundation has been actively supporting refugees from Ukraine in Krakow, as well as organizing transports of humanitarian aid into various areas of Ukraine, even close to the frontlines, reacting on an ongoing basis to the needs of the civilian population (for example, in relation to the lack of drinking water). It also supports several Ukrainian orphanages.
– We would like to direct aid to five specific care facilities, which have a total of more than 500 children in their care, displaced from destroyed Ukrainian cities. The children are of different ages, some of them with special needs. They live in adapted buildings in varying conditions. I hope that together, with your support, we can provide better living conditions for the children in which they can play and learn with dignity. We can make the coming months easier for both the children and their carers, despite their displacement. – says Katarzyna Corominas, President of the Gentes Foundation.
Crossing Mountains in a Classic Car
Kumiega and Kravs will drive from Lviv to Monte Carlo in a 1932 Peugeot 201 Coupe. The 2200 kilometer route will be a great challenge for the 91-year-old car, but Michal is sure that the Peugeot is up to it. The Polish-Ukrainian duo has planned their route through Krakow, Bielsko-Biala, Ustron, Bratislava, Vienna, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Valsot, and then along the western shore of Lake Como. The last stops before Monaco will be in Alessandria and San Remo. – The route has not been chosen randomly. Along the way, we plan to meet both sports and rally celebrities, some of whom will be invited into our Peugeot to accompany us on various stages on the #RoadToHelp.

The #RoadToHelp will start on the 21st of January 2023 from Lviv. The signal to start for the Polish-Ukrainian crew will be given by Eliza Dzwonkiewicz, the Consul General for the Republic of Poland in Lviv, and the Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovy. Kumiega and Kravs are due to arrive in Monte Carlo on the 27th of January.

задля допомоги українським дітям
в 1930 році в останній раз учасники райду вирушили зі Львова в подорож на старт легендарного Райду Монте Карло. 93 роки пізніше в таку подорож збираються Міхал Кумєга і Світлана Кравс. Польсько — український екіпаж подолає 2200 км, щоб зібрати кошти на допомогу найбільш скривдженим та потерпілим в часі війни — дітей, які перебувають в українських дитячих будинках. До Монако поїдуть Peugeotem201 Coupe з 1932 року.
Змагання Road to help будуть реалізовані завдяки співпраці з Фундацією Gentes. Фундація допомогає Україні від трьох років, а її засновники від восьми років.
Від початку війни фундація активно підтримує біжанців з України, які прибули до Кракова і організовує транспорт гуманітарної допомоги в різні місця України, аж до околиць лінії фронту. На протязі всього часу реагує на потреби цивільних людей (наприклад брак питної води), а також допомогає декільком дитячим будинкам в Україні.
- Знаю як тяжко... з кожним днем, що раз важче, здобути кошти на ціль допомагати Україні, але мусимо разом мобілізуватися, взаємно підтримуватися і робити як найбільше, зокрема для молодих поколінь, дітей, щоб травми зв'язані з війною були хочаб трохи менші — пояснює ціль своєї праці Міхал Кумєга.
В дорогу за допомогою
Надихаючись традицією “Зіркового шляху”, Міхал заініціював змагання Road to help, завдяки яким має на цілі зібрати кошти на допомогу дітям з України, які в результаті російської агресії втратили близьких, батьків, свої домівки та передусім почуття безпеки.
- Кожного дня частина українських дітей залишаються сиротами. Близько року триває війна і весь час боротьба на фронті, але також і боротьба за наймолодших, щоб їх основні потреби були задоволені та стабілізувати їх життя — пояснює Міхал Кумєга ініціатор змагань, а також власником станції райдів та перегонів Kumiega Racing. - Дізнавшися про наші старання і плани подорожі, власники Автомобіклубу Монако запросили нас на урочистий СТАРТ. Наш 91-літній автомобіль відкриватиме змагання і 27 січня першим проїде браму старту Райду Монте Карло Historique —додає. Штурманом поляка в трасі буде Світлана Кравс з Львівського Автомобіклубу.

- Що важливе, хочу то підкреслети, не збираємо кошти на нашу подорож, то фінансуєми з власної фундації. Цілу зібрану суму коштів під час подорожі, призначаємо на закупівлю необхідних речей для дітей та їх потреб, щоб забезпечети підтримку для них.
- Допомогу хочемо спрямувати до п'яти закладів опіки.
Заклади мають більш ніж 500 дітей переселенців зі зруйнованих українських міст. Проживають в будинках які знаходяться в різних станах експлуатації. Розраховує на то, що разом з вами і завдяки вашій підтримці вдасться осягнути ціль та забезпечети кращі умови проживання, розвитку та науки. Можемо зробити, щоб поза тим переселенням, найближчі місяці були і для дітей і для їх опікунів легшими — говорить Катерина Цоромінас директор фундації.
Ретро-автомобілем через гори
Райд Монте Карло то найстарший Райд на світі. Його перший заїзд відбувся в 1911 році. Незвичайно вимогливі перегони розігруються на серпантинових дорогах спеціально злокалізованих в францізьких Альпах Високих. Частиною історії легендарної забави є такзваний “Зірковий шлях”. Колись учасники самостійно доїжджали до місця старту до Монте Карло з різних міст Європи, здолавши по декілька тисяч кілометрів. Серед тих міст була Варшава чи Львів, з якого останній раз учасники вирушили в 1930 році.
Зі Львава до Монте Карло польсько-український дует поїде Peugeotem 201 Coupe з 1932 року. Кумєге і Кравс до поконання мають 2200 кілометрів, що для 91-річного автомобіля буде величезним випробуванням, але Міхал є певний, що поконає виклик. Екіпаж запланував трасу через Краків, Бєльско-Бялу, Устронь, Братиславе, Відень, Зальцбург, Інсбрук, Вальсот та вздовж західного берегу Озера Комо. Останньою зупинкою перед Монако буде Алессандрія і Сан-Ремо. Цілу подорож буде можна відслідковувати на Facebook.
Road to help вирашає 21 січня 2023 року зі Львова. Сигнал для старту польсько-українського екіпажу озвучую Еліза Дзвонкевіч, Генеральний Консул Республіки Польщі в Львові та мер міста Андрій Садовий. До Монте Карло Кумєга і Кравс повинні доїхати 27 січння.
